This project turned knot tying instructions into clear vector diagrams for a book layout.

The challenge was making rope feel easy to follow without flattening it into boring technical steps. I started with hand sketches to understand the movement of each knot, where the rope crossed, where it looped, and where someone could easily get lost.

In Illustrator, I created a custom rope brush so the diagrams felt consistent from one step to the next. That detail mattered because even a small change in thickness, curve, or spacing could make the instructions harder to read. The goal was to make each movement feel clear, not decorative.

The final diagrams were placed into a book mockup to show how the instructions would work in context. Paired with a simple typographic system using Trajan Pro 3, the layout feels organized, readable, and more polished than a typical instruction guide.

The final result is a visual guide that makes knot tying feel easier to understand, with enough craft to make the process feel considered instead of purely instructional.
